Carols on the Hill 2026 – free Christmas carols outside Windsor Castle

Carols on the Hill is Windsor’s much-loved open-air Christmas carol service, held on Castle Hill in the shadow of Windsor Castle. Wrap up warm and join friends, family, neighbours and visitors to sing your favourite carols under the stars – it’s free, and everyone is welcome.

What to expect

  • An evening of well-known Christmas carols sung together outdoors, with the castle lit up behind you.
  • Live music – in recent years the carols have been accompanied by The Band of The Household Cavalry and the Royal Holloway University of London Brass Band.
  • A short, joyful service led by local church leaders from Churches Together in Windsor.
  • A friendly, family atmosphere – children are very welcome.

Carols on the Hill is free to attend. There will be a collection on the night – by cash, card or QR code – for:

St Vincent de Paul Society
Their Christmas Lunch in Windsor.
Emerge Advocacy
A youth mental health charity.

Getting there

The statue of Queen Victoria stands at the top of Castle Hill, where the High Street meets Thames Street, opposite Windsor Castle. It is a few minutes’ walk from both Windsor & Eton Central and Windsor & Eton Riverside stations, and from the town-centre car parks.

Good to know

Is it free?

Yes – there are no tickets and you don’t need to book. Just come along.

Is it suitable for children?

Absolutely – all ages are welcome. Bring a torch or lantern to add to the atmosphere.

What should I wear?

The service is outdoors in December, so dress warmly and for the weather.
