Windsor Foodshare was started by the churches of Windsor in October 2013 and is now part of Windsor Christian Action, which operates as Alma Beacon. It gives short-term weekly help to any local household where someone is at risk of going hungry because of a lack of money – no judgement is made about how the need has arisen. Each week it provides non-perishable food, bread, eggs, fresh fruit and vegetables, and once a month toiletries and cleaning products. It currently helps around 120 people a week.
How to get help: food is given out to people with a Foodshare voucher. Vouchers are issued by nominated referrers, including Housing and Social Services, GPs, schools, children’s and mental health services, community wardens, Citizens Advice and local church leaders. See the How to Get Help page for the full list.
Collection times (with a voucher):
- Alma Beacon, 73a Alma Road, Windsor SL4 3HD – Tuesdays, 1.00pm – 2.30pm
